Donald Robert Florence Sr.

Donald Robert Florence, Sr., 77 of Louisville, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2012, with his family surrounding him. He was retired from General Electric, was a commercial painter and an avid U of K sports fan. He was a member of Life Bridge Christian Church and loved spending time with his family. Don loved bowling, playing golf and dancing with his sweetheart, Carolyn. His love of sports cars was evident with his shrine to Dale Earnhardt Sr. with all of the paraphernalia he had collected over the years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carolyn Kyser Florence; children, Donald R. (Natalie) Florence Jr. and Laura L. (David) Durkee; grandchildren Brooke and Jacob Burd, Kayla Durkee; great-grandchildren, Braeden Bailey and Daylin Conley; sister, Eloise Florence and nephews, Marshall and Weston Florence.

Don's Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at noon at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bardstown Road. Interment in Resthaven Memorial Park with military honors will follow. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
