He was born on December 31, 1936, to James Herald and Nellie Mary Harmon Herald in Barren County, Kentucky.
Donald retired as a driver from the Teamsters Union and spent his free time taking care of his yard and feeding the birds. Donald was a fan of automobiles, pickup trucks, and motorcycles, but especially cars; he was a car fanatic. Donald loved to work on cars, go to car shows and drag races, and would often have something to say to his family members if they showed up to a visit with a dirty car (which he then would promptly wash!). Donald enjoyed his serenity time smoking his cigars, where he did his best thinking, in his later years with his lab companion, Gidget. Donald never had a bad word to say about anyone, and his family remembers him with a smile always on his face.
He was an amazing man, loved by everyone, and will be deeply missed.
Along with his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Virginia Pierce Herald; his two sisters, Sonya Jewell and Phyllis Harris; and his two brothers, Danny Herald and Darrell Herald.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Guy Jarbo (Belinda), Jimmy Herald (Traci), Tina Nisbett (Mike), Dawana Herald (Rob), Mike Herald (Laura), and Tonya Morgan (Gary); his grandchildren, Derrick Herald, Guy Jarbo, Jr., Donnie Jarbo, Danielle Honeycutt, Genna Augenstein, Terry Luckhardt, John Young, James Young, and Joseph Tobbe; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Donald Herald will be held on Monday, December 29th, 2025, at Evergreen Funeral Home in Louisville, Kentucky from 3:00PM to 7:00PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 30th, 2025, at 12:00Pm in the same place. Donald will be laid to rest next to his wife in Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Donald’s name.
