To the Jenkins Family - We are so sorrowful for your loss.  Don was a wonderful and caring man. We are so proud to have known him.

I met Donny in the 3rd grade...we immediately became friends.  At recess we'd go outside, where 2 young boys would let their imaginations run wild.  We would pretend we were Daniel Boone and Davey Crockett, fighting with all our might against the Indians. As life went on, our imaginations took us through many other adventures together. Never in my wildest imagination did I think that Donny would have the battle for his life against the horrible disease of cancer.  Just like the Indians, Donny fought the battle of all battles.  Only this time, unfortunately, it wasn't in his imagination. It was real life reminding us of of how fragile and precious life is to us all. It's incredible how one small boy can have had such a lifelong impact on me.  I will surely miss my friend. I know, in time, there will be a chance for us to have recess,together,once again.

Don, we'll all miss you.  what a big-hearted guy you have always been since you were just a little guy!

Don will always be remembered for his tremendous love and dedication to WHS. He was Mr. Wesport and cherished his High School memories. It was amazing to witness the love he and Donna shared. She was a rock  and fought side by side with Donnie. Together they displayed great courage. We have lost one of our most beloved Warhawks.

I first met Don, when I was 5 or 6 years old. We played tiny tot baseball, then softball, then little league baseball together.
I'll always remember his warm , ever-present smile and genuine interest in everyone around him. He was a gentle soul. Later on in life we bowled at Lyndon lanes together.
I know your hearts are heavy at this time of grief, and I pray that the precious Love and Grace of God's Holy Spirit will fill your hearts with the strength needed to get through this very tough time.
Don will always be remembered and greatly missed, but may the passing of time enable your grief to turn to happy, wonderful thoughts of rememberence of a truely good man.

People come into your life for a REASON, a season or a lifetime. They have come to assist you through a difficulty as Donna did for you. To aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. Friends are there for the reasons you need them to be. And sometimes these people we love, die. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is now done. You have made us the Westport Warhawks Class of 1973. You have taught us the value of old friends. We love you Donnie Jenkins. Thank-you for being part of our lives.

Don - You will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. Your energy and spirit will live on with all of us.

I met Don a few years ago, and only knew him when he was sick.  He was inspirational in the way he privately dealt with his pain, and continued living with such a positive outlook.  He meant the world to my good friend Donna, and after meeting him, I know why.  I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to know him.  Rest in peace, Don.

It’s amazing how many of us knew Don from various venues – Plantation, Lyndon, Westport HS, construction work, sports, and through mutual Louisville friends.

Everyone always had the same thing to say about Don – What a great guy.  He truly cared for and appreciated his MANY friends.  We’ll all miss him.

My thoughts are with Don's family. Donnie used to coach my son Bradley in baseball when he played on Chandlers' team. Donnie was so patient with the little guys. Then a few years later we worked at Lyndon Lanes with each other on Saturday nights. I am sad that I only thought about getting in touch with him but was not able to do so. Don was a special guy who maintained friendships long after friends left Louisville.  We believe that Don never met anyone that he could not be close to.  We are sure that he will be missed by many and are sure that he is in a better place doing good things.  Rest in Peace DJ.

No matter how long it's been, Don held a special place in my heart. He was a friend whom allowed you to be yourself. We went to Lyndon & Westport together & my heart feels heavy! But I know that he fought the good fight of faith & ran  toward the prize, with an eternal reward. We will be reunited with Donnie one day. What a joyful reunion that will be:). Until then, he  will be missed & thought of with a smile and with laughter with  many great memories. May God comfort & bless you, Donna (what a sweetheart you are) & Donnie's sons. We've lost one of the Lyndon boys. An amazing person who touched the lives of so many. Simply put, we are all better people for having known Donnie Jenkins.

Don Jenkins was a hardworking gentle giant.With a grip of steel he could bring one to their knees.But Donald was more likely to give you a pat on the back or a gentle hug.Don's smiling face despite adversity and suffering will always give me hope and inspiration.

We were shocked to read of Donnie's passing. We grew up with the Jenkins family on Witawanga and loved them all. Unfortunately we will be unable to attend the funeral service due to a death of another close family friend's funeral being held at the same time. Don had an exceptional heart, and this was so much at the center of who he was. People mattered to him and in a way,  his friends and loved ones were family to him as well as his children and family. He would give you a good dose of razzing if he hadn't seen you, or if you had been goofing off in life. But that razzing wouldn't last long as you would then catch up with each other and your respective lives... or recall our Glory Days at Westport. Afterwards, you would realize that all of that razzing was just Don's way of telling you that he cared about you, and that you mattered to him. Our lives have been richer with Don a part of them and may God bless his soul and those who cared for him in this last part of his life on earth.
