Don grew up in Louisville, KY. He graduated from Ahrens Trade School and attended UofL. He joined the United States Coast Guard and later owned his own printing company. In 1973, he married Patricia Yoakum and they moved to Miami, Florida. After 11 years, they moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia, where he got his real estate license. In 1994, they returned to Louisville where Don went to work for UPS. He retired in 2004.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Doris Wainwright; his sister, Nancy Harris; and Brother-in-Law Douglas Harris.
He is survived by his loving wife Patricia; Brother-in-Law Ralph Yoakum Jr.; nephews Kris and Brent Yoakum; Great Niece Katherine Yoakum; Great Nephew Taylor Yoakum; and cousins Willia (Scott) Kennedy, Cele (John) Beckner, Sherrie Bensing, and Micki Christenson.
Visitation will be 1:00 - 4:00 PM on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Arch L Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Interment will be private in Resthaven Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Animal House, KY Humane Society, or Second Chance Wildlife Rescue.
