Born in New Haven, Kentucky, on December 31, 1934, to Carl and Mary Kirkpatrick, Doris grew to fill the hearts of those around her with love, faith, and the joy of learning.
Her early years were marked by the close relationships she had with her eleven siblings—Evelyn, Florence, Louise, Dick, E.C., Kathleen, Norma, Coletta, Bernice, Jimmy, and Jackie—all of whom preceded her in passing, as did her beloved husband, Gerald A. Reid whom she married in January of 1963.
Doris's legacy continues through her loving children Gerald A. Reid (Marcie) and Molly A. Heady (Chris), her adored grandchildren Ashley Chandler (Chris), Mallory Reid, Jacob Reid (Marissa), Christian Heady, Ethan Heady, Brendan Heady, Julia Sturzebecher (Riley), and Annie Heady, as well as her precious great-grandchildren Naveah Reid, Shiloh Reid, Sophia Barbour, Hannah Owen, and Lucy Sturzebecher.
Doris earned her place in the hearts of many during her time as an elementary school teacher at St. Bartholomew Catholic School. She was devout in her faith. A former nun with the Ursuline Sisters, an active member of St. Athanasius Church in Louisville, Kentucky, Doris lent her beautiful voice to the church choir and provided support through the St. Athanasius Widows and Singles (SAWS) group.
An expert at finding joy in the simple pleasures of life, Doris enjoyed playing the piano and loved heartfelt conversations with her numerous friends. She was an expert shopper of infomercials and a buyer of other people’s “bargains” at yard sales.
Doris's presence was a beacon of light within her community and family. Her guidance, the result of a life lived with unbounded love and unwavering faith, will be missed by the many whose lives she touched.
