Dorothy was born in Shelbyville, Kentucky on September 25, 1932 to the late Walter and Lottie Rice. She was a business woman and an accountant while raising four kids then continued with helping raise her grandchildren. She was a loving and involved mom, grandma and great grandma. She loved game shows, her daily newspaper, an ‘occasional’ ‘moke break, chatting with her sisters, big birthday celebrations, bonfires and bantering with anyone who would visit. She was a wizard at Uno and an undercover late night party animal. She took great pride in all she did, whether that was the upbringing of her family, doing her own nails, making her broccoli casserole or keeping up with her home and yard.
No matter how many times life tried to stop her or slow her down, she never stopped putting one foot in front of the other. She lived her life to the fullest until the very end.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Rice. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Lisa (Barry), Michael (Rebecca), Karen (John), and Sharon (Phil); thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren who were her world and her siblings Judy (Harrison), William, Pat, and Kathy (Gary).
A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2026, from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky, 40218. A funeral service in Dorothy's honor will follow Monday morning, November 2, 2026, beginning at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow in Highland Memory Gardens.
