Dorothy Lyons

Dorothy Marie Lyons, 90, of La Grange, Kentucky, passed away on June 28, 2026. She was born on January 27, 1936, Dorothy was the daughter of the late William McMillen & Nancy Sadie (Bushong) McMillen Compton. A cherished presence in the lives of those who knew her, she will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection.

Dorothy lived with a steady compassion and a thoughtful, kind-hearted way of caring for others—often placing the needs of family and friends before her own. Faith was a quiet strength throughout her life, and even in serious moments she could offer a gentle humor that brought comfort and lightened the room.

For more than 20 years, Dorothy worked at RC Cola, later continuing her working life at Floyd Memorial Hospital. In every season, she carried herself with a selfless sense of purpose and a sincere regard for the people around her.

In 1956, Dorothy married the late Raymond R. Lyons. Together they built a family life grounded in love and devotion, and Dorothy’s care for her family remained a defining part of who she was.

Dorothy enjoyed going dancing, bowling, traveling, and putting together puzzles. She especially loved hosting family gatherings, where her warmth was felt in every detail—often accompanied by the much-loved Bourbon Balls and Rum Cakes for which she was known.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lyons; grandson, Michael Lloyd; and her siblings, Sadie Williams, William “Junie” McMillen, Catherine Milby, John McMillen, Dewey McMillen, Donald McMillen, Douglas McMillen, and David McMillen.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Raymond J. Lyons (Carol), Sandra Duncan (Larry), and Gregory Lyons; one granddaughter, Nicole Lyons; and two great-grandsons, Lincoln and Franklin Guptill.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home (4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218). Dorothy will be laid to rest at a later date at Resthaven Memorial Park.
