Dorothy "Dottie" Mahoney

Dorothy Marie Mahoney, lovingly known as Dottie”, passed away on July 20, 2026. She was born on January 23, 1932, to William and Rose Louise Schaftlein in Louisville, Kentucky. Dottie adored animals, especially her beloved Hobo who passed away several years ago. She enjoyed playing cards with her family, especially Rummy, Penny Poker, and letting her grandchildren win at Old Maid. Among her favorite things are her extensive doll collection, Christmas, flowers, and nature, but her most treasured pastime was spending time with her family. Dottie cherished every holiday and every cookout with those she loved the most. She will be dearly missed.

Along with her parents, Dottie is preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, James Richard Mahoney.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Kevin Mahoney and his wife Debbie, Wade Mahoney, and Shawn Mahoney; her grandchildren, Erin Mahoney, Amanda Mahoney, James Richard Mahoney II, and Kimberly Mahoney; and her great-granddaughter Haisley Mahoney.

A visitation for Dottie will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 11:00AM to 2:00PM. A funeral service will follow in the same location on the same date, beginning at 2:00PM. She will be entombed alongside her husband at Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Brookdale Nursing Home in Louisville, Kentucky for their genuine care and love for Dottie during her stay there.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions in Dottie’s name made to the Humane Society in Louisville.
