

Dorothy N. Lowry McDonald, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Jefferson Manor on Saturday, July 2, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Norman S. McDonald Jr. in 2001; her son, Michael McDonald in 2008 and four brothers.
Dorothy was born on a farm in Clay Co., Mo in 1916 and graduated from William Jewell College in 1939. She and Norman married that year and lived in Liberty until being transferred by G.E. to Louisville in 1964. She was a member of the T.N.T. Sorority, D.A.R. and Hurstbourne Baptist Church. She volunteered her time at the Veterans Hospital, T.W.I.G.S. and the American Red Cross.
She and Norman were charter members of Hurstbourne Country Club and spent their happiest retired years on the golf course, entertaining friends and watching their grandchildren’s sports. She loved cooking, crossword puzzles and playing bridge.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Margaret M. Roberts (Doug); grandchildren Sarah (Aaron), Sam, Amanda (Jordan), Norman III (Lisa), Todd (Susan) and Kristen; daughter-in-law, Gretchen and great grandchildren, John, Luke, Caleb and Lauren; sisters-in-law, Betty Lowry and Jean Lowry and many nieces and nephews around the world.
She spent the last five years at Jefferson Manor where every staff member knew her by name and treated her with love and respect.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011 from 6-7 pm at Hurstbourne County Club followed by a short prayer service at 7 pm. She will be buried next to her beloved husband in New Hope Cemetery in Liberty, Mo.
