Dorothy Geraldine "Gerrie" Shipley, 86, passed away on August 29, 2026. Dorothy was a devoted Catholic woman of faith whose life was marked by steady love, gentle kindness, and a selfless readiness to care for others. A true family woman, she was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, and she held those roles with quiet strength and deep devotion. She was also the oldest sister to four younger brothers, a place she filled with enduring care and constancy.
In seasons of difficulty, Dorothy’s compassion showed itself most clearly in the way she served, especially as a caregiver to both of her parents during their health decline. She would do anything for anyone in need, offering help without hesitation and love without condition. In the lives she touched, Dorothy will be remembered with love.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dorothy Burchett; her brother, John Burchett Jr.; as well as many beloved family members and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Bill Shipley, and Lonnie Shipley (Kimberly); her brothers, Donald Burchett (Marjorie), Michael Burchett (Carol), and Dale Burchett (Brenda); as well as three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild whom she cherished deeply.
Visitation will be held at Holy Name Catholic Church, 2914 S 3rd St, Louisville, KY 40208, on September 1, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. The Funeral Service will follow at Holy Name Catholic Church on September 1, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. A Committal Service will take place at Evergreen Funeral Home in Louisville, Kentucky, on September 1, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Holy Name Catholic Church.
