Douglass Nance, 62, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 18, 2012, with his family by his side. Doug was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 6, 1949, the son of R. Dale Nance and Lorna Stobbart Nance. He attended the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh as an art major and served in the National Guard for four years.
In his professional life, Doug started at Superior Coffee where he was a National Sales Manager for 10 years. In 1990 he and his family relocated to Louisville after he accepted a National Sales Manager position with Grindmaster Corporation. In 2004 Doug fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning his own business when he established Preferred Solutions. He served as the company’s founder and president until March 2012.
Besides having an affection for art and an incredible talent for both painting and drawing, Doug also loved celebrating “birthday month” every September and sporting his favorite Georgia Bulldog pants (Go Dawgs!).
Doug is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Karen, his daughters Lindsay Nance and Brittany Nance and his siblings, Phillip Nance and Judith Nance. He will always be remembered as an incredible husband and father, and an amazing brother. Friends and family will never forget Doug’s quick wit, creative spirit and kind heart.
The visitation service will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012 from 2 – 8 PM at Arch L. Heady Funeral Home at Westport Village. A private memorial service will be held Saturday morning for immediate family. We would like to thank Dr. Donald Miller for the loving care he provided to Doug for 6 years. Besides being Doug’s Oncologist, he is also a very dear family friend. The Nance family would also like to thank the entire James Graham Brown Cancer Center staff for their smiling faces and positive attitude. There are no words to express the gratitude we feel toward all of the 2nd and 3rd floor nurses who offered their unconditional love and support. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in the name of Douglass Nance to the James Graham Brown Cancer Center.
