He was born in Beaumont, TX on October 4, 1946, the second oldest of four children born to Donald and Mary Droddy.
Prior to retiring from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, he served his country and his community with honor and distinction and was Catholic by faith.
Earl joined the United States Marine Corps in 1964 and was a Vietnam veteran. Completing his military commitment to the Marine Corps, he joined the Louisville Police serving his community from 1970 to 1998, earning the rank of lieutenant. After retiring from the LPD after 29 years, Earl joined the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, continuing his commitment to service and was appointed to the rank of major prior to retiring.
During his career, Earl maintained his law enforcement administrative knowledge by completing his Bachelor of Science Degree from Eastern Kentucky University and maintaining high standards in law enforcement by attending programs offered by the National Crime Prevention Institute and the FBI Academy. Additionally, Earl was awarded a rating of International Open Water Diver from the Professional Association of Diver Instructors all while service in the United States Army Reserve until his retirement at a rank of major.
Earl was a life member of VFW Post 8639, a member of Knights of Columbus Bishops Spalding Council #2761 and fourth degree member of Archbishop Floersh Assembly, and old Louisville Police Officers Commanders Club, as well as a founding member of Guns for Justice MC. During his life careers, he received many awards for distinction and honors for dedicated service to his community and his country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Linda Droddy; and a brother, Donald Droddy.
Those left to cherish his memory are his love of his life, Maggie Newton; two daughters, Lori Robinson and Sarah Droddy; a son, Jason Droddy; a brother, David Droddy; a sister, Marce Droddy; and two grandchildren, Connor and Ellie Robinson; as well as a host of friends and relatives, all of whom loved him.
His funeral mass will be on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 8709 Preston Hwy., with cremation to follow. Visiting will be Monday and Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at the Arch L. Heady Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 8519 Preston Hwy.
