Edward Eric Hoyle, known lovingly as Ed, passed away on July 5, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 82. Born on July 17, 1943, in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, he lived a life marked by devotion, hard work, and quiet strength. He was a man whose faith, kindness, and steady presence touched the lives of many, and he will be remembered as loving, selfless, and humble.
Ed was the beloved husband of Joye (Geiger) Hoyle for 60 years, and together they built a life centered on family, faith, and enduring companionship. He was a devoted father to Tony Hoyle (Anne Peabody), Tasha Baldwin (Paul), and Amy Sutherland, and a proud grandfather to Emily Baldwin, Ryan Baldwin, Zachary Sutherland, and Gaby Sutherland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eric Hoyle and Martha (Long) Hoyle; his in-laws, Carl Geiger and Ginny (Dorman) Geiger; and his brothers, Howdy Hoyle and Jack Hoyle.
Ed earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisville, the first in his family to attend college; this was an accomplishment that reflected his determination and commitment to learning. While attending the university, he was also raising a family, coaching youth sports, working at General Electric, and serving in the Indiana National Guard. That period of his life spoke volumes about his character, as he balanced many responsibilities with tenacity and a strong work ethic. He later built a long career at GE Appliances in accounting, where he was respected for his reliability and dedication before retiring from the company.
A faithful member of St. Martha Catholic Church for more than 50 years, Ed lived his beliefs through his actions and the way he treated others. He found joy in simple pleasures and took pride in keeping his yard neat and manicured. He loved animals of all kinds, especially dogs, cats, and birds. He also had a deep appreciation for music of many styles, including jazz, country, and classical. He was a very devoted sports fan who loved cheering on the Cincinnati Reds and all University of Louisville sports teams.
Ed especially treasured the time he spent with Joye, particularly during their walks together. Those moments reflected the companionship and affection that defined their marriage and their life together. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his steadfast love for his family, and the example he set through a life of perseverance, humility, and devotion. His memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
