

Edward Louis "Ed" Ruscher, born May 31, 1963, in Indianapolis, IN, and a long-time resident of Louisville, KY, passed away on March 14, 2026, surrounded by his devoted family. He was a beloved husband, stepfather, grandfather, son, and a friend to many, remembered for his loving, generous, and selfless nature.
Educated in his hometown, Ed graduated from Perry Meridian High School with the class of 1981. His dedication to physical fitness led him to play football at Purdue University before joining the military. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, participating valiantly in Operation Desert Storm. After serving, he furthered his education at Indiana University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and exercise science.
Ed was well-known for his work as a strength coach at the University of Louisville, notably serving six years under Howard Schnellenberger. This career was a testament to his passion for athletic excellence and his commitment to nurturing potential in others.
Ed joyfully spent the last 5 years working for QualiChem Metalworking Fluids, where he spent much time travelling and working with his clients, which he so enjoyed.
As an avid weightlifter, Ed found joy and community, often inspiring others with his dedication and discipline. His hobbies and interests, however, never overshadowed his love and commitment to his family. Ed's enduring relationship with his wife, Mary (Fearneyhough) Ruscher, and their bond over the years, was a source of strength and happiness to both.
He was a supportive and loving stepfather to Keith (Rachel), Kyle (Kaci), Chas (Heather), and Nate (Olivia) Elliott, and a doting grandfather to his six grandchildren, Jacob, Luke, Alayna, Hadley, Drew, and Harrison Elliott, who brought him immense joy. Ed's memory will live on through his beloved family, including his mother, Claudia Joslin, and her husband, Gordon Joslin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar L. Ruscher, and mother, Bettejane W. Ruscher.
Ed Ruscher's life was exemplified by his dedicated service, unconditional love, and the pursuit of personal excellence. He devoted his time on earth to uplifting others whether in uniform, on the field, or within the walls of his home. Ed's life is a reminder that with hard work, generosity, and love, one person can make a lasting difference. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a guiding light to his family and friends.
A memorial visitation will be held at the Arch L. Heady & Son – Westport Village funeral home, 7410 Westport Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40222, on Friday, March 27th, 2026 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm. A funeral service will take place the next day, Saturday, March 28th, 2026, starting at 10:30am, at Southeast Christian Church - Crestwood Campus, 6220 Crestwood Station, Crestwood, Kentucky 40014.
