

Edward Smith, age 86, passed away on July 22, 2025 after a long battle with cancer and his family by his side. Born on October 13, 1938 in Louisville, Kentucky, Edward lived a life marked by service, dedication, and faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents Johnnie and Pauline Smith, one brother Kenneth Gene Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Barbara Smith. One sister Martha Love, two brothers Johnny Howard Smith and Robert Wayne Smith. Three sons John (Sherry), Kenneth (Rita), and Michael (Kim). Three grandsons Matthew, Stephen, and Ryan. Three step grandchildren Lance, Austin, and Loren. Five step great grandchildren Adrian, London, Layla, Ruby, Silas.
A proud veteran, Ed served in the United States Air Force for 23 years, including the Vietnam war, earning the respect and gratitude of all who knew him. Following his military career, he earned a master’s degree from Webster College and worked in pharmaceutical sales and management for more than two decades, bringing professionalism and care to everything he did.
After retirement, Ed continued to serve his community, volunteering at Baptist East hospital for 10 years. He was a long-standing member of the Masonic Lodge and devoted member of West Broadway Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon. His faith and compassion touched the lives of many.
Ed was an avid University of Kentucky fan, cheering on the Wildcats with pride and enthusiasm.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 27, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Memorial Park on 4400 Bardstown Road.
A funeral service will follow on Monday, July 28, at 10:00 a.m. at the same location.
Edward’s legacy of service, kindness, and faith will be remembered by all who knew him.
