

Emil W. "Johnie" Johnson, 87, of Louisville, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2012, at Westminster Terrace Healthcare Center. He was born in Louisville and was a U.S. Army veteran, a life-long Catholic and an upholsterer for most of his career, although he retired from the City of Louisville.
Johnie enjoyed golfing, pitching horseshoes, listening to country music and playing his harmonica. He delighted in telling his golf jokes to his caregivers and tricking them with his word puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 64 years, Emma Catherine Johnson; sister, Martha Downs; children, John (Judy), Tom, Joe (Becky), Linda (Louie) Besse, Judy (Eddie) Olliges, Steve, and Nancy (John) Lahood; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Westminster Terrace and to Hosparus for their care and concern during Johnie's illness.
His Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Martha Catholic Church, 2825 Klondike Lane, with interment in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Friday at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Road, from 2-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 4 p.m.
