Ethel moved to Louisville at the age of 19, and became one of the famous “Rosie the Riviters” women at Curtis Wright, manufacturing airplanes for WWII. After the war, she worked at Phillip Morris and met the love of her life, Tommy Cocke. They were married in 1948 for 62 years, until Tommy’s death in 2010. Ethel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, and sister. She was a member at Northeast Christian Church.
Left to treasure her memory, her daughter: Trish Higdon (Robert), her son: Eddie Cocke (Donna), grandchildren: Tonya Coy, Monica Lacroix, Michelle Shuttler, Jamie Clark, brother: Albert Hayse, sister: Barbara Embry, 10 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughgter: Brittany Higdon, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
A special thank you to everyone at Atria Springdale and Hosparus for all the love and care given to Ethel in her final days, and to Donna Cocke, her devoted daughter-in-law, and Robert English, her daughter’s fiancé.
A funeral service to celebrate Ethel’s life will be conducted at 12 noon on Saturday, March 17, 2018 in the chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Guests are invited to attend a visitation from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018.
