He graduated in 1956 from Eastern High School, Louisville, KY. He retired from Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation after 43 years. He was an Army Veteran of the Army National Guard 138th Artillery and Army Reserves of Kentucky. A life member of the National Rifle Association and the Louisville Rifle and Revolver Club. Member of Lyndon Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Martha (Haeberlin) Schultz; siblings, Ben (Evelyn) , Bob (Wanda), Phyllis Miles (Bill) and John (Rachael) Schultz.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Margy Lynn (Shreve) Schultz, his son David Andrew Schultz (Karen), his grandsons Brian Edward and Christopher David Schultz , his sister, Norma Schultz Saunders (Doug) , sister-in-laws Judy Shreve Borders (Charles) and Carole Shreve Strange (Jerry).
A visitation will take place on Saturday, March 7th, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, at the Arch L. Heady & Son - Westport Village, 7410 Westport Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40222. The funeral service will follow, starting at 12:00 pm. Burial will take place in Floydsburg Cemetery, 5600 Old Floydsburg Rd, Crestwood, Kentucky 40014.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in Eugene's honor may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hosparus Health.
