Kim was a Valentine baby, born on 14 February 1937. She became orphaned at a young age and as a young women moved to Seoul, where, in 1957 she met her future husband, SGM John B. Shepard Jr, Ret. whom she married the following year and remained married until his death in 2007. Being a military wife, she resided in many countries before finally settling in Kentucky with her husband and 5 children. Although one of her proudest moments was when she became a naturalized citizen, she never forgot her heritage and taught her children to respect and blend cultures. Family was very important to her. She taught her children the importance of education, a great work ethic, and strong family values.
Kim had an incredible passion for 2 things: gardening and politics. She would spend hours pulling every weed by hand. Her yard was filled with beautiful flowers of all colors for every season of the year. She would spend hours mowing, watering, and lovingly tending to her garden. Her greatest delight would be when neighbors would stop and tell her how much they loved her garden. She could also spend hours discussing politics with anyone who wished to engage. She always stated that coming from a country that didn’t offer the same privileges and rights as we had in the United States, it was important to protect our freedoms.
Kim immediately lit up any room she entered and made an impact on so many people. She was a joyful presence with her bold personality and strong opinions. She loved having her home filled with her family and cooking wonderful meals that they could all enjoy for hours while they sat around and talked.
Kim was preceded in death by her husband John B. Shepard, Jr. She is survived by her 5 children: Elizabeth Uhde (Michael) of Bradenton, FL, Rosemary Irwin (Ralph) of Louisville, KY, James Shepard (Rica) of West Palm Beach, FL, Sandra Schuck (Thomas) of Savannah, GA and Jo Ann Shepard (Robert Metz) of Louisville, KY. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: April Irwin (Kevin Kuhar), Ryan Irwin (Brittany), Rudy Uhde, Blake Schuck (Ashton), Eric Uhde, Scott Schuck (Anna), Braden Shepard (Gabrielle Estrada), Skylar Shepard and
