Evelyn Baker Meredith passed away on July 3rd, 2023. Evelyn was born February 25, 1930 in Pine Hill, Kentucky and moved to Louisville after graduating from Rockcastle County High School. She met her husband of 73 years, Holmes Meredith, when they both worked at the Blue Boar Cafeteria on 4th Street. After raising their three daughters, Evelyn went to work for Ben Snyder’s department store downtown, then at the Snyder’s Distribution Center in Jeffersontown. She learned to drive at the age of 49 and from then on couldn’t be slowed down. After retiring from Snyder’s, Evelyn spent her time helping to care for, and spoil, her grandchildren, to whom she was the best “Grandma”, and lunching with her best friend Nellie. Holmes and Evelyn were married in 1950 and joined Victory Memorial Baptist Church soon after. Evelyn dearly loved her church and was a faithful servant there, as a nursery and VBS worker, kitchen helper for potluck suppers and even church cleaner, until her health failed. Evelyn was preceded in death by their son, Timothy Dean Meredith, her parents, Effie and Fred Baker, her sister Naomi Mink, and brothers Chester and Norman Baker. In addition to her husband, she leaves behind those who loved her most: daughters Kay Carpenter (Rick), Robin Livingston, and Benetta Korfhage; grandchildren, Landon Carpenter (Angela), Logan Carpenter (Christy), Candace Howlett (Neil), Caitlin Livingston, Caroline Livingston (Aaron Waters), and Tim Korfhage; great-grandchildren, Eliana, Cohen, Levi, Annabelle, Avery Grace, Aiden, Josephine, Colton, Grace and Dalton; many nieces and nephews, and best friend Nellie Gambrell. A funeral service for Evelyn will be held at Kenwood Baptist Church at Victory Memorial, 3805 Southern Parkway on Saturday, July 8, at 11 am, with viewing from 10 – 11am. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be at Arch L. Heady Funeral Home at 3601 Taylor Blvd, Louisville, on Friday, July 7, 2:00 – 8:00 pm.
