Fe Leaño Bautista M.D., 80, passed away on Saturday, March 26th, 2022. She was born on December 30th, 1941, in Oroquieta City, Philippines, to the late Turiano and Honorata Abuton Leaño. She studied to become a Physician at Far Eastern University in Manila, and graduated with a Doctorate in Medicine in 1966.
After obtaining the Educational Council for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate, in 1967 she moved to the United States to pursue her Post-graduate training. She began a rotating internship at St. Elizabeth Hospital, in Elizabeth, NJ, then an Internal Medicine and Pathology residency in Long Beach, CA, at their V.A. Hospital.
In 1970, she moved to Columbus, OH, to continue as a Pathology resident at Ohio State University Hospital. A year later, she moved south to Louisville, KY, to train as a Pathologist at the V.A. Hospital. In 1976, she was board certified in Anatomical & Clinical Pathology. She had clinical practice experience at Hardin Memorial Hospital, St. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, and St. Anthony Hospital.
It was in Louisville where she raised four children with her husband, Constancio Mateo Bautista, M.D. In December of 1976, together they opened the "Bautista Medical Clinic", a private Family Medicine practice in Mt. Washington, KY. For the next 45 years, they compassionately cared for the health and wellbeing of their patients. In addition, Fe was an active medical staff member of Norton and Baptist Hospitals in Louisville.
During her rewarding career, Fe was a member of various medical associations, including the Kentucky Medical Association (KMA), Jefferson County Medical Society (JCMS), the Philippine Medical Association of Kentucky & Southern Indiana (PMAK-SI), and was a Fellow member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). From 1991-1992, she served as President of The American College of International Physicians (ACIP) Kentucky Chapter.
Fe served in the United States Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel at the 5010th U.S. Army Hospital. She was called to active duty during the Persian Gulf War, and was a recipient of the Army Commendation Medal at Fort Knox, KY, for her meritorious service.
Over the years, she has participated in several Humanitarian Medical Mission trips in the Philippines, helping the poor in small, rural communities. Because of her pride and love of her home country, she enjoyed educating others about Filipino culture through her involvement in the Filipino American Heritage Association (FAHA), which was founded in Louisville in 1989. Her favorite activity was performing Filipino folk dances.
Coming from a musical family, Fe loved to play the piano. She enjoyed playing tennis with friends, watching classic musicals like "Hello, Dolly!" and "The Sound of Music”, and traveling the world. Above all, there was nothing that she loved more than her family. She will forever live in our hearts.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Constancio M.D.; 3 sons Constancio Jr., Philippe (Shannon), Mack (Marija); and daughter Marife; grandchildren Magdalena, Ezekiel, Martin, and Emerson; and several nieces and nephews abroad.
