
God has called him home. Floyd Redford Shoemaker, Sr. born December 29, 1924, passed from life on this earth on May 24, 2013. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife Norma Dean (Wilkins), three children: Jean Edwards (IL.); son, F. Redford Shoemaker Jr., (Kelly)(OK), son Paul Carman Shoemaker (Bonnie) (VA); brother Jesse Shoemaker (CA); brother in law – Errol Wilkins (Rosie) (Washington State); a sister-in-law Ruth (Wilkins) Sutherland (IN), ten grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of wonderful friends. Floyd was a very proud father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Floyd and Norma were blessed with 60 plus years of marriage. It will be so very lonesome without him.
Floyd enjoyed a distinguished career with the US Government – 43 years in three branches of military service, (as he so often said “I’ve been all over the world”). He retired from the Army and he retired from Civil Services as a Civil Engineer.
He was a long time member of Valley View Baptist Church, member of Cub Run Masonic Lodge, a member and a Past Master of Robinson Masonic Lodge No 266, a member of the Scottish Rite of Louisville, Kentucky (a 32nd degree Mason), Shriners of Louisville, Heroes of “76”, Sojourners, and a Life member and leader for several years in the Nation Association of Retired Federal Employees. He touched so many lives with his gregarious and helpful personality. A stranger was simply a friend he had not yet met.
Celebrations of his life will be held in Louisville, KY at Heady Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Highway visiting hours will be on May 29th from 5-7 - immediately following will be a Masonic Service at 7:00PM. Funeral will be on Thursday, May 30th at 12 noon with entombment in Resthaven Memorial Park.
