

Mr. Mercer was born on December 27, 1930 in Muhlenberg County, KY, the youngest of 4 children of the late Wilbur Jack Mercer and Virgie - Jones Mercer.
He was a 1949 graduate of Graham High School. He served as an employee of General Electric, Appliance Park for 37 1/2 years. He was also a long time member of KY Avenue (Camp Taylor) Church of Christ where he also served as Deacon. He was a very compassionate man, regularly visiting the sick and shut in’s of his church and community.
He was a man of many talents, as well. He loved cultivating flowers, particularly Roses. He oftentimes would be found drawing, painting and playing musical instruments. He taught himself to play the guitar, mandolin, and banjo. But he is most remembered for his impeccable woodcarvings, which is yet another hobby he taught himself and became extremely passionate about. His carvings amazed everyone because they were so perfectly made!
More importantly, he was a man with an abiding faith and a wonderful disposition. He was full of joy, always smiling and laughing. He loved practical jokes and was a man who simply made the world a better place! He will be deeply missed by all.
In addition to his spouse (Juanita),parents and siblings, Mr. Mercer was preceded in death by his 4 children: Donny Mercer, Sandy Bolen Mercer, Kenny Mercer and Timmy Mercer. He is survived by grandchildren Chris (Stephanie) Mercer, Stephanie (Todd) Woodruff, Kimberly (Steve) Lucas, Crystal (Johnny) Walker and Tiffany Mercer. Also, great grandchildren Alex Mercer, Landon Mercer, Olivia Woodruff, Madelyn Woodruff, Caleb Lucas, Joshua Lucas, Destiny Walker, Alesia Walker, Alexis Walker, Savannah Walker, Johnny Walker Jr., Dwayne Walker and Nicholas Mercer, daughter in law Debbie Mercer and son in law Jim Bolen.
The family will be receiving friends from 11:00-2:00 followed by the funeral service at 2:00, Friday, May 8, 2026 at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4623 Preston Highway, Louisville, KY 40213. Burial will follow the funeral service at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Camp Taylor Church of Christ, 1418 Belmar Drive, Louisville, KY 40213.
