Francine Kam Chin Dye

Francine “Nana” Dye was born on October 4, 1938, in Honolulu, Hawaii, at King Kamehameha Hospital. She grew up in Hawaii surrounded by a large and loving ʻohana of cousins, aunties, and uncles and attended Kaimuki High School.

It was in Hawaii that she met the love of her life, Joe Dye, who was serving in the U.S. Navy and originally from Louisville, Kentucky. They started their family in Hawaii before eventually moving to Kentucky, where Francine once again found herself embraced by a big, loving ʻohana — this time on Joe’s side of the family. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and connection.

Francine cherished every moment spent with her ʻohana — from summers at the lake to holiday gatherings and any opportunity to be together. She took great joy in raising her children, celebrating milestones, and creating memories that will be cherished for generations.

She will be remembered for her warmth, immense kindness, and the deep love she had for her ʻohana. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was simply “Nana,” a name she treasured and a role she considered her greatest joy. Her laughter, her stories, and her unwavering presence will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Francine was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Joseph Forrest Dye Sr., and her parents, Koon Ak and Lee Shee Chang.

She is survived by her children, Joseph “Joe” Forrest Dye Jr. (Jennifer) and Kimberly “Kim” Magdalen Duffy (John); grandchildren, Jonathan Duffy (Melissa), Cameron Duffy (Kelly), Ashley Hill (Cornelius), Parker Dye, Ella Dye, and Roehn Dye; and great-grandchildren, Maia Jo, Maverick, Sonny, Boone, and Miles.

Guests are invited to attend visitation from 12:00–4:00 PM on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven. Interment will take place on Monday at Resthaven Memorial Park at 10:00 AM.
