Frank Randall Childers Sr, 87, of Louisville Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home with his loving with wife Jean by his side. Born in Lawrence County, Kentucky to the late George Childers and Helen Hinkle Childers, he grew up in the Fincastle/Audubon Park area of Louisville.
Frank loved sharing stories about growing up in Fincastle, spending time at the teen center there and in the surrounding neighborhood. He started losing his sight early in life and attended and graduated from DuPont Manual High School enrolled in the Sightsaver program there. Frank never let his vision challenges keep him from working 10-12 hour days 7 days a week for much of his life. His work ethic started with his paper route and caddying at Audubon Park Country Club where the other caddies would help him keep track of his player’s shots. While he worked at the Louisville Naval Ordnance Station for 18 years until his vision finally required him to stop, his lifelong job was as a salesman. Frank would finish his shift at NOSL and then be driven to his door to door sales job selling encyclopedias or photo services over the years. Frank and his brother Larry also sold Christmas trees running multiple tree lots for almost 50 years. By providence, when Frank had to leave NOSL, he was introduced to the tropical plant business establishing Uncle Franks plant lots in Louisville, Lexington and Florence with the flagship location on Hurstbourne Parkway under the green and white tent.
Frank never met a stranger and was always willing to give someone a hand, a job or a chance. He was a member of St Matthews Baptist Church, a 32nd degree Mason, and he was a Past Patron of Rising Sun Chapter of the Eastern Star. He was also active in the St Matthews Lions Club helping to organize an annual bowling fund raiser for years.
Frank was preceded in death by his sisters, Peggy E McDowell (Pat Ed McDowell), George Anne Sotsky (George Robert Sotsky); his brother, Larry E Childers (Nancy Davis); and his stepdaughter Laura Earney (Mike).
He is survived by his wife of 16 years Jean Case Earney Childers; his sons F. Randall Childers Jr (Cindy), Michael Childers (Kelly) and Brian Hillberry, stepdaughter Cindy Ammons (Phil) and stepson Jerry Earney (Mary Beth) and son-in-law Mike King. He is also survived on both sides by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cousins he loved dearly.
