

Born in Bee Spring, KY, a son of the late Felix and Grace (Vincent) Meredith, he lived in Louisville most of his life. Gayle was an Army veteran with the 440th Signal Battalion of the Korean War, serving as a cook in Seoul, Korea. He was a member of the 440th Signal Battalion Association. In his youth he delivered goods on a bicycle for Sears in Louisville. He later worked out of town for Cole Brother's Circus, carried hods in Ohio, and worked at Case Manufacturing Co. in Racine, WI. When returning to Louisville he spent a few years working for the Naval Ordnance and later as a machinist for the Army Corps of Engineers retiring in 1996 after 36 years of service.
Gayle was a caring, sensitive, and very independent person. He loved working on his old car and enjoyed traveling by train and not planes He loved visiting family and his many friends. He was a longtime, devoted member of Walnut Street Baptist Church.
He leaves four sisters, Geraldine Jones of Corydon, IN, Laverne Jones of Jeffersontown, Jonell Mehr of North Kingstown, RI and Shelba (Mike) Tonegawa of Louisville; two brothers, Holmes (Evelyn) and Harold (Pat) Meredith, all of Louisville; 42 nieces and nephews and 77 great-nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late Kova and Cleborn Meredith, Marie Moutardier and and Maleen Piercy.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Monday at the O.D. White Funeral Home, 2727 S. Third Street. Funeral will be noon Tuesday at the O.D. White Funeral Chapel, with burial in Resthaven Cemetery.
