

Gene Whorley, age 87, passed away on April 11, 2025 surrounded by his family at UK hospital. He was born on September 9th, 1937 in Cloverport, Kentucky to the late William and Carrie Falls Whorley. Gene was raised in Hawesville and was a graduate of Hawesville High School c/o 1955.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Geneva Davis Whorley; his fur baby, Mya; his children, Bryan (Donna) Whorley, Rick (Vivian) Davis, Geraldine Garrett, Norma Ford; brother, Larry Whorley; 7 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, and one nephew. Gene was preceded in death by his grandson Sean Ford and son-in-law Tommy Ford.
Gene proudly served his country for 2 years in the Army, stationed at Ft. Ord in California, followed by 4 years of service in the reserves. After over 40 years, he retired from General Electric in Louisville where he worked many different jobs. He loved to work in the yard and had immaculate landscaping skills. He was an avid University of Kentucky sports fan. His greatest joy was attending and watching UK basketball and football with his son Bryan.
Pallbearers will be Miguel Leon, Christopher Leon, Michael Leon, Brian Davis, Chis Ford Michael Aines.
Family and friends attending Gene’s Celebration of Life are invited to wear UK attire to celebrate his beloved Wildcats.
Gene Whorley will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery.
