He was born on Saturday, September 7th, 1935 in Whitley City, Kentucky to parents, Joe Timmons & Dorothy Johnson. George Richard was a kind hearted & gentle man. He never knew a stranger and was a friend to many. He lived a full life, a life – well – lived! He is left with many to mourn his passing, but also to celebrate his life. He served his nation, with pride and honor, in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a Corporal, where he served for a time as a Firearms Instructor and coach. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal & Good Conduct Medal. He was also an Honored Kentucky Colonel, commissioned as such since April 23rd, 1986. George Timmons retired from Johnson Control, formerly known as Globe Union. He was a private pilot, who had a passion for flying. He was also a licensed Realtor. He assisted with the fabrication of an Everglade Ground Effect Machine built under contract for Reynolds Aluminum Company around 1961 that was built to become the Aluminum Cruiser, which was donated to the Smithsonian Institute.
His parents, Joe & Dorothy Timmons, and younger brother, also Joe Timmons, precede him in his death.
He was a loving husband to Shirley Richert Timmons for over 50 years where they lived in Louisville, Kentucky. He was also a loving Father to Jo Ellen Timmons, Cynthia Davis, Steve Wilson & Victor Richert; a Brother, an Uncle, a Grandfather, a Great – Grandfather, and a Great – Great – Grandfather & friend to many who are left to cherish his memory.
Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, April 16th, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. in the Dignity Chapel of the Evergreen Funeral Home. Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 16th, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until the Hour of Service at 3:00 p.m. also at the Evergreen Funeral Home.
