Jean was a devoted homemaker, mother and grandmother. A 1953 graduate of Fern Creek High School, she excelled at several sports, participated in numerous activities and was dedicated to the “Creeker” alumni club. She had a love for family gatherings, Geoghegan genealogy and music. Jean sang in the Kentuckiana chapter of the Sweet Adelines and served as their president. Being an avid songwriter, she co-founded the Louisville Area Songwriter’s Cooperative and the Louisville Music News newspaper (serving as editor throughout the ‘80s and early ‘90s).
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Melvina Geoghegan, her husband, Thomas Metcalfe Jr, brother, Harold Geoghegan and sister, Lois Raymer.
She is survived by her children: Eric Metcalfe (Michele) and Scott Metcalfe, grandchildren, Flynn, Anna and Sara Metcalfe, Siblings, Marie Van Meter, Marshal Geoghegan (Janice), Linda Geoghegan and Robert Mike Geoghegan and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to celebrate Jean’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2018 in the chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. with interment at Resthaven Memorial Park. Guests are invited to attend a visitation from 11-2 p.m. the day of the funeral.
