Glen was born in Warfield, Kentucky and had 11 brothers and sisters. Upon graduation from Southern High School, Glen served in the Marines. He earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Kentucky and a master’s degree in engineering from the University of Louisville. Notable career highlights in engineering include work with American Standard and General Electric where he was on the team that developed the automatic icemaker. He furthered his affinity for finance by getting his securities licenses and building a business. He worked at Prudential-Bache Securities and served as an independent broker for Linsco Private Ledger (LPL), the largest independent broker-dealer in the United States, for over 30 years. At LPL, he brought his son and daughter-in-law into the business where they worked together for over 25 years. Throughout his career as a financial advisor and planner he helped hundreds of clients and their families.
Glen celebrated his 65th wedding anniversary with Patricia Hooper Damron on December 26, 2024. In addition to being survived by Patricia, he leaves behind a daughter, Denise Damron, and son, Mark Damron and his wife Jennifer Calhoun Damron, along with Mark and Jennifer’s four children, Brianna Damron Forbes and husband Grant Forbes, Jonathan Damron, Silas Damron, and Penelope Damron.
Glen and Patricia enjoyed traveling, visiting England, Germany, Italy, and France, as well as multiple U.S. states including Hawaii. They were involved in many local charities including the Bellarmine Women’s Council, Kentucky Derby Festival, and Louisville Orchestra. Glen was an avid collector of coins and Japanese netsuke and was passionate about blues and jazz music, amassing a record collection well into the hundreds. He used his engineering skills by designing and building two of the families’ homes in Louisville. With his quiet demeanor and knowledge of the financial markets, he was often sought as a trusted advisor by his many clients. Glen’s wit and sense of humor were enjoyed by friends, many from high school and college. But of all of his interests, spending time with his family was most important, including family dinners, holidays and birthday parties. He was always concerned with taking care of his family and was often called upon as he could “fix” anything, from household repairs to car problems. In spite of all his accomplishments he remained humble and will be sorely missed by anyone who knew him.
