Grace W. Baker

September 30, 1919February 15, 2012

Grace W. Baker, formerly of Louisville KY for 63 years, died on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at The Summit at Park Hills in Fairborn OH. She has gone on to join her husband of 55 years, Edgar C. Baker and her parents, Carl Stevens and Gladys Gray Westerfield of Beaver Dam KY. The angels in heaven are rejoicing. Grace was born on September 30, 1919 in Beaver Dam KY, graduated from Bethel College in Hopkinsville KY and Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green KY. Grace taught at Valley High School in Valley Station Ky for 25 years. Edgar preceded her in death on March 23, 1994 and her granddaughter Kara Seifert. She is survived by 3 daughters, Anna Andes (Robert) of Fairborn OH, Ava Martin (Ralph) of Durham NC, and Carla Grace Culbert of Delton MI. She is also survived by grandchildren Ava Miller, Patti Andes Crain, David Andes, Jennifer Fincher, Korinne Taylor, Zac Culbert, Alexandria Culbert, Amanda Culbert, Abigail Culbert, Adrianna Culbert, Zeb Culbert, Virginia (Ginny) Howell and great grandchildren Zachary Miller, Harrison Miller, Alexandra Andes, Elizabeth Andes, Sierra Taylor, Owen Fincher, Ruby Fincher, Charleston Grace Fincher, Tiffany Crain, Christina Crain, Serena Crain and Donnie Crain and two great-great grandchildren, Aubrie and Brayden. A service to celebrate Graces’ life will be held at 10 am Saturday at the Southern Chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son, 3601 Taylor Blvd. with interment to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Friday.

I miss you so much Grandmother! Patti, Don and I had lunch in LaGrange and thought of you. Then, when we returned to Ohio, UK was playing Old Misse and my thoughts went directly toward you! Every day there is another memory and another tear that reaches to heaven until we meet again!

I am very sorry about the loss of your mother. She was a wonderful teacher and a very good friend of my mother, Mary Doyle. Their years at Valley teaching English together were special. The memories at Valley High School will be treasured by all. Her family will be in my thoughts.

Mrs. Baker was my best teacher ever. She was my 7th grade core teacher in 1955 at Valley, her 1st year there. All my family members and friends have heard about her over the years. She has been in my thoughts so often and I will keep you, her family in my thoughts and prayers now ,at this time of her loss.

I taught with Ms. Baker for four years at Valley HS, she was a great teacher and friend. She knew both my parents from Beaver Dam, Martha and Owen Hammons. We all thought so much of her, Ms. Baker gave me my first baby shower in 1974 at her home. We will cherish the memories; our prayers go out to her family. Cecilia Hammons Finnell

Mrs. Baker was absolutely one of my favorite teachers at Valley. She always taught with such a passion and was definitely an inspiration. I will always remember the passion she had when she was telling us the story of "A Tale of Two Cities" She will be missed and God Bless the Baker family.
