

Bud graduated from Madrid High School in Spain and from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California.
Bud served in the United States Army 1964-1967 in Vietnam as a combat photographer in the 39th Field Photo Team and in Germany in 69th Signal Company Photo. Bud was a Professional Photographer in the Commercial/ Industrial and Wedding field. Bud enjoyed being a photographer and was always appreciative of having a career that he enjoyed.
Bud was a member of the Church of Epiphany, MD to KY & Beyond Genealogy group, Wilder Park Neighborhood Association and DAV post 89. Former member of LGS, HLAK, Louisville Wedding Network, PPAGL, PPA and KPPA.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Eugene Smith and Juanita Rose (Lewis) Smith; brother, Bob Smith; and stepson, Joseph C. "Joey" Smith Jr. and his special dog, Luke.
Bud is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Jane Marie (Hagan) Smith; a daughter, Gretchen Marie Smith; son, Erik Edward Smith (Windy), of Austin, TX; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Ann (Smith) Riggle (Bob), of Madison, AL; 9 grandchildren, Stuart, Zachary, River, Addison, Simone, Lyle, Heidi, Matthew, and Michael; and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his special puppy "Beau".
Funeral will be at Church of Epiphany, 914 Old Harrods Creek Road Louisville, Kentucky on August 29, 2025 with the funeral mass at 11AM. Bud will be laid to rest at 10AM on Tuesday, September 2, in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 4-8PM at Arch L Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Road Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will also be held at 9AM until time of funeral on Friday at Church of Epiphany, 914 Old Harrods Creek Road Louisville, Kentucky.
