Hazel L (Goodgine) Hickman was born in Knoxville, TN on February 23rd, 1945 to Paul and Lorene Goodgine. On Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the age of 66 she departed this life after an 11 year struggle with Alzheimers.
Hazel led a full and rewarding life. She especially cherished the time she spent in the mountains of Tennessee as a young girl. She was able to visit with Uncle Jeff for one entire summer and was thrilled to be living the farming life. She loved dolls, quilting, and gardening. She was also an avid reader. She was always busy with one project or another. Family was very important to Hazel. She spent much time with family and friends at “The Hickman Hideaway”. Pontoon boat rides, angel biscuits and her love of animals are just some of the fond memories. Through the years she and her sisters never lost touch with one another.
Hazel attended California Grade School in the West End of Louisville. She also attended Manual High School and Jefferson Community College. Hazel was employed by Ford Motor Co for 30 years prior to retiring in 2001.
Hazel, affectionately known as “G-ma”, will truly be missed by long-time friends and family including husband William (Billy); sisters Shirley Heightchew and Teresa Faith (Billy); brothers Leland, James, Paul Jr, Mike and John Goodgine, and Charles E England; sons Jeffrey (Joyce), Parker (Jane), David and Kerrick Waddle; step-daughters Dianne Thomas (Norris) and Anita L Hickman; step-sons William Jr (Maria) and George B Hickman (Stacy). Hazel is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren , long-time friend Nikki Larkin and a host of nieces and nephews. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lorene Goodgine, and grandson Cory Waddle.
