

He was a retired employee of the Ford Motor Company truck plant, a proud Air Force veteran of the Korean War, a life member of Mill Creek VFW 5421 where he had served as Commander, All State VFW Commander from 1978-1979, and was a member of the Military Order of the Cootie. In addition, he was a member of AMVETS, the AMVET Motorcycle Club, American Legion, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and was a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Laura Camara Stepp Powell; daughters, Theresa “Teri” Waddell (John), Florence “Kandy” Burlingham (James), and Theresa Massie (Paul); a brother, James Powell (Mary); nieces, Kim Dickerson (Richard), Jacquie Petrey (Steve), and Grace Payne (Scott); nephew, Greg Powell (Cynthia); a cousin, Dorris Powell (Georgia); 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Monday at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Highway, followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Saturday and 2-8 pm Sunday.
