Horace F. Atchley, Okolona, KY, 82, entered his Heavenly home of rest on September 11, 2013. Horace was born to Frank and Nellie Atchley on August 14, 1931 and was raised on a farm in Girkin, KY. He served as a US Army Staff Sergeant in The Korean War. He retired from General Electric and owned Freeway Equipment Co. with his great passion for sales and small engine repairs. He was a member of Meadow Hill Baptist Church.
Horace is survived by Wilma Atchley, wife of 58 years; son, Kevin Atchley (Susan)Bowling Green, KY; daughters Brenda Reece (Ken) Ormond Beach, FL; and Denise Crawford (Randy) Prosper, TX. Grandchildren Landon and Cameron Crawford; Whitley Lyon (Jeff); USAF Staff Sergeant Timothy Atchley, USMC Sergeant Shawn Atchley, USMC 2nd Lieutenant Anthony Atchley (Candice) and Spenser and Savannah Sawyers. He is also survived by sisters Virgie Grimes and Clara Ruth Reiter of Bowling Green, KY. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Horace was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Anna Myrle Wilson and Louise Pennington. The family wishes to thank the team of doctors and nurses at Jewish Hospital for their extended support and care.
Visitation will be from 11:00am-8pm Sunday, September 15, Evergreen Funeral Home, Louisville, KY. Funeral services will be held at 8:00AM, Monday, September 16, 2013 at Evergreen Funeral Home with military burial following in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Disabled American Veterans or The Gideons International.
