Army Lieutenant Colonel Howard M. Welbourn, 86, of Louisville passed away November 2, 2013 at his residence. He was born on July 10, 1927 in Los Angeles, California to the late Dr. Marshall and Cora Mathis Welbourn. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in the Philippine Islands during WWII, also served in Korea and Vietnam. He was a decorated Army Aviator and received a bronze star. He was appointed a Kentucky Colonel by Gov. Wendall H. Ford.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norma J. Harrod Welbourn, 2 sons, Robert D. Welbourn (Romonda) and Howard M. Welbourn Jr. (Heidi), a daughter, Paula J. Moore, 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, a brother, Marshall Edward Welbourn (Patricia) of Houston TX.
A celebration of his life will be conducted Wednesday November 6, 2013 at 3:00pm at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road with private interment in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of service at 3:00pm on Wednesday. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association.
