He was retired from the KY State Fair Board, was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Beechmont Baptist Church, and a member of Plumb Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Bernice S. Gardner; son, Dr. Hugh K. Gardner, Jr.(Jackie); grandchildren, Spencer Todd Gardner and Jamie Lin Elmer (Dwight); great-grandchildren, Mckenzie Ann Gardner and Grayson Kenneth Elmer; and brother, David S. Gardner (Mary Bernice).
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at O.D. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2727 S. Third St. with interment in Louisville Memorial Gardens West Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. on Wednesday.
