Ina Fay Sutherland Reeb, 90, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021. She was born July 1, 1931, in Bardstown, Nelson County, Kentucky, to the late Archibald and Effie (Brown) Sutherland on the family farm. The farm had been in the family since Patrick Henry deeded it to her great-great grandfather, John Sutherland in the late 1700's. Ina attended Sutherland Elementary School and Bardstown High School. In 1952, she graduated from the Kentucky Baptist School of Nursing in Louisville, Kentucky, and was a registered nurse. Ina held various positions in the medical field in her working career, including assisted living facilities, federal agencies, and the Churchill Downs Racetrack.
Ina with her husband Bob settled in eastern Jefferson County in the early 1960s where they raised their children. Ina was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church on Browns Lane, joining the church in the 1960s and actively involving her children in many of the church's activities.
Ina enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who she loved dearly. A favorite family time for Ina was spending a few weeks in the summer with all the children and grandchildren at a sunny beach in Florida.
Her reflections and observations on human nature were one of her trademarks. She was always willing, whether asked or not, to share her advice on many subjects. She was never shy about letting you know where she stood and how to live an upstanding life. She did her best to convince her children and grandchildren that if they used their brains and focused on what was right they could accomplish what they wanted in life.
Ina was a fan of mystery novels, detective/mystery television shows, and enjoyed a challenging crossword puzzle.
Ina was an avid quilter and enjoyed sewing and knitting. She knitted many Christmas stockings, sweaters, hats, and scarves, and loved passing on her passion to the next generation. She would gladly sit down with family at the sewing machine and pass on her knowledge while working on a new project. She always had a quilt in progress that was tailored to special memories for a family member or friend.
Ina was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert Edward Reeb (affectionately referred to as Boboo); her parents Archibald and Effie Sutherland; her brothers Henry and Fred Sutherland; and grandson Cameron Wilhite. She is survived by her three children Robert E Reeb II and his wife Barbara, Robin Reeb O’Hara and her husband Dan, and Martin Henry Reeb and his wife Nancy; seven grandchildren Margaret Reeb (Mike), Rosemary Reeb, Molly O’Hara (Anthony), Abigail Reeb, Shannon O’Hara (Jon), Baily O’Hara (Michael), and Will Wilhite; and one great-granddaughter Rory Jane Lawson.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Hosparus Health, or St. Matthews Methodist Church.
There will be a memorial of Ina's life held on Saturday December 11, 2021, at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home at Westport Village.
Visitation from 10am to 1pm, and memorial service starting at 1pm, with burial at Cave Hill Cemetery following the service.
