

Jacqueline Childress Whitmer, of Louisville, Kentucky, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on February 14, 2025. She has taken her place at the piano, playing for the choir of angels. Jackie was born on November 15, 1935, to Archie & Orpha Childress, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 50 years, Chuck Whitmer, her grandson Josh McGowen, and her sisters Polly Corbin and Carol Hagan. Jackie is survived by her children, Kim McGowen (Madonna), Tami McGowen (Peggy), Tim McGowen (Shelly) and Tanya Kelley (Dennis). Four grandchildren, Ashley Berrow (Joe), Caleb McGowen, Peyton House, Jacob House, Harrison Kirby, and two great-grandchildren, Josie and Ezra Berrow. She is also survived by three sisters, Gerry Link (Titus), Pat Estes (Gene) and Janet Childress, dear friends Carol Funk and Jane Martin, sisters-in-law Barbara Wooden and Margie Stuart, as well as many nieces and nephews. She also gladly took on the role of Grandma to her great niece, Natalie Cox, after the death of Natalie's great-grandmother Orpha. Jackie is also survived by her beloved dog Zoey.
Jackie graduated from Manual High School and Campbellsville University. She retired from National City Bank where she worked as a bank teller. She was a member of Highland Park First Baptist Church for many years and was the pianist at the church for more than 70 years. She recently became a member of Fern Creek Christian Church.
The family would like to thank Dr. Janet Chipman & Dr. Lebnan Saad for taking such good care of Mom for so many years.
Visitation will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home at 4623 Preston Hwy. on Thursday, February 20th from 1pm-8pm. Funeral service will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home on Friday, February 21st at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Wounded Warriors in memory of Josh McGowen.
