Jimmy was a proud member of the Louisville Fire department for 30 years, achieving the rank of Captain for 11. He was awarded the Medal of Valor (November 1, 2000) for bravery in the line of duty.
He knew no fear and was always willing to sacrifice for others. He was an avid outdoorsman, a diehard UK fan, loved to travel abroad, go to concerts, and a friend to many. Jimmy was a fantastic storyteller. He loved recalling his experiences with his close friends and firefighter brothers and sisters. He did many good deeds for strangers and family that many will never know about and that’s just the way he wanted it. Those who knew Jimmy knew him for his humility, stewardship and sense of humor.
On July 22nd 1978, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Pamela Ann Eckerle, who survives him today after 48 yrs. He was a proud father to sons Kelby and Nick (Jessica) and a wonderful Papaw to his granddaughter Kayley. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel Bryan, and sister, Jackie Kane. He is survived by sisters Patricia Burge, Cheryl Dobson, and Vickie Ward (Russ) and a host of nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
