James Elmo Garr

Louisville – 96, passed away May 17, 2026, at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Louisville, KY on April 18, 1930, to the late parents, Albert Zenior Garr and Nadine Elizabeth Garr.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Eula Alvey Garr; children, Ricky Garr, and Jimmy Garr; son-in-law, Larry Kniss; grandson Chad Kniss (Michele).

James retired from Naval Ordnance Station after 36 years.

He is survived by his loving children, Debbie Kniss, Kathy VanDeMark, Pam Garr, Robin Garr, and Chris Garr (Sabrena); grandchildren, Michael Garr (Andrea), Lindsey VanDeMark, Alex Garr (Maria), Joshua VanDeMark (Cherry), and Rick Garr (Emily); great-grandchildren, Ashley Kniss Matthews (Josh), Zachary Kniss (Loral), Brooklynne Moore (Cameron), Dustin Garr (Courtney), Hannah Hughes, Diana Garr, David Garr, and Lucian VanDeMark; great-great-grandchildren, Dakota Kniss, Dylan Holmes, Zoey Matthews, Colton Kniss, Charlotte Garr, Elijah Matthews, Cayde Moore, Emma Matthews, and Chandler Garr; sister, Linda Pardieu.

A Funeral Service will be held 9:00am, Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218, with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218.
