James William Hoagland Jr.

He was born in Louisville, Kentucky to the late James and Mary Ruth Hoagland on March 26, 1935. Jim loved playing golf with his golf buddies, and fishing, boating and skiing at Barron River Lake. He and Helen enjoyed skiing in Colorado and Paoli Peaks with dear friends, Peg and Lee. He was an avid dancer and you could always find him and Helen dancing at the Moose Lodge and Rat Race Club. Jim served in the US Army National Guard and retired from the US Postal Service after 29 years of service. He then worked at Paul’s Fruit Market for another 10 years. He enjoyed going to the casinos and Churchill Downs. Jim was a very active member of St. Rita Catholic Community for 67 years.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Ruth; and granddaughter, Jennifer Hoagland.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 67 years, Helen; children, James William “Bill” Hoagland III (Sherrie), Louis Hoagland (Mary Ann), Donna Hoagland, Christopher Hoagland, Cynthia J. Hays; grandchildren, Matthew(Katie), Dawn, Alycia, James IV; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson, and dear friend, Lee Hornung.

Visitation for Jim will be Monday, August 19, 2024 from 3pm – 8pm at Arch L Heady Funeral Home – Okolona, 8519 Preston Hwy 40219. The Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 11am at St. Rita Catholic Church, 8709 Preston Hwy, 40219 with burial immediately following in Highland Memory Gardens.

Memorial donations in Jim’s honor should be directed to Hosparus of Louisville and/or St Jude Research Hospital.
