James Oscar Marlowe born June 15, 1942 passed away on January 25th 2023. He was 80 years old. He leaves behind his wife of 43 years Linda Lee Marlowe, his son Jim and stepdaughter Wendy Creasey. James is preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Mary Ruth Marlowe, sister Mary Rose and brother William.
James went to Atherton high school in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a graduate at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro Kentucky in 1964.
He later pursued a theological degree at Boston College before attending the Boston School of Art in Boston, Massachusetts. He further studied and graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 1977 with a masters degree in sculpture. His large scale, abstracted vision of musical instruments - primarily constructed of welded steel, cork and rope - was, and still is sui generis. He was funny, compassionate, generous and giving. A friend to all and a man of many kindnesses. Later in life his work was primarily photography with a special interest in birds, flowers and unusual structures. He was a prolific and skilled artist in many mediums and a devout reader of his bible. Jim was employed for nearly 18 years by the Oldham county board of education in the facilities department as an inspector. He loved his wife and family and cared deeply about those he worked with. He now resides in heaven, with his heavenly father and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Guests are invited to attend a visitation from 11am-12:30pm on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Arch L. Heady - Cralle, 2428 Frankfort Ave, Louisville KY. 40206. A private burial will take place at Resthaven Memorial Park.
