He was honored to serve in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was also a dedicated Mason and in 2013 celebrated his fifty year anniversary of achieving the 32nd rank.
Harvest Church of God was his home church for over thirty years and he took great joy in the many relationships cultivated there.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Mary Webb Smith; daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Larry Tucker; grandson, Andrew South; and granddaughter, Johanna South.
A frequent saying of James was, "Getting old isn't for sissy's."
Funeral Service to be held at Evergreen Funeral Home, Thursday, March 7, 2013, at noon. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation to be held Wednesday 2-8pm at the funeral home.
