Janet Masterson, 64, passed away on Wednesday October 25, 2023 in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born in Louisville to Herbert and Gail Schlaughenhoupt on June 2, 1959. She graduated from Jeffersontown High School and Western Kentucky University with degrees in Psychology and Child Development, both of which served her well as a teacher and administrator in a variety of local child care programs. Her knowledge of child development and her strong leadership skills led to her final career phase at 4C, the largest Child Care Resource and Referral Agency in Kentucky.
Janet was known across the state as a warrior for children, families, and the child care workforce, advocating for them on a local, state, and national level before retiring from her position as a 4-C Executive Director. Her sharp wit and keen observation skills were legendary. She knew which lake friend needed encouragement, how to calculate light years, the name of every rock and shell, which legislator could be counted on to vote for families and how to dock a pontoon boat in high wind. She will be deeply missed by many.
Janet is preceded in death by her father Herb Schlaughenhoupt Jr.
She is succeeded by her loving husband of 38 years Bruce Masterson, daughter Kelsey Rader (Charles), mother Gail Yates, sister Myra Loeser (Ron), nephew Kevin Loeser, aunt Paula Fleming, cousin Melanie Sims (Tony), brother-in-law Tim Masterson (Vicki), niece Jessica Revell (Connor), nephew Justin Masterson, and numerous brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces/nephews in the Cissell Family.
Special acknowledgement to Mrs. Sally Gray Fuller and Mrs. Susan Vessel Hubbuch for their lifelong friendship and for their endless support of Janet over this 7 year fight with Ovarian Cancer. They truly were “Angels on Her Shoulders”
A memorial service for Janet will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218.
Contributions to the following in Janet's memory would be a worthy substitute for flowers or tears.
