Jean Farren was born on November 28, 1939, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to Dick and Rachel Nece—their first and only child. She grew up in Wesleyville, PA, and lived across the street from her cousin, Beverly Nece, who was like a sister to her.
Jean attended Wesleyville School, where she met her lifelong friend, Donna Wiggins, in the second grade. She graduated in 1957 and began working at a bank in Erie. Through a mutual friend, she met Dick Farren, and they were married on June 3, 1961, at Wesleyville Methodist Church. Shortly after, they moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where Dick began working at the new General Electric plant.
She worked at GMAC Corporation until the birth of their daughter, Lori. She was an active member of the Cedar Heights Homemakers Club and, along with Dick, a charter member of Summit Heights Methodist Church. Jean was deeply involved in church life—teaching Sunday School and participating in what was then called the Women’s Society.
In her later years, Jean enjoyed events with the Red Hatters group. She loved making her handmade cards, which she sent out for holidays and to those who were ill or in need of encouragement. Just before entering the hospital in early July, she made sure all 50 of her Fourth of July cards had been delivered.
Jean was a blessing to many and will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Farren, her granddaughter, Elizabeth Boisvert.
Jean is survived by her children, Lori Boisvert (Tom) and Gary Farren, grandson, Tommy Boisvert (Devanny) and Rachel Hellums (Chris). She is also survived by her great grandson, Beck.
