Jean Lewis

With deep sorrow and abiding love, we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother on May 13, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on August 29, 1931, in Hardinsburg, Kentucky, she lived a long and meaningful life defined by faith, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.

She was the devoted mother of Leann Lawrence (Mark) and Mike Lewis (Kim), and the proud grandmother (Nanny) of Scotty Lewis and Vince Lewis (Madi). Her family was her greatest joy, and she cherished time spent with them—especially during the holidays, when she delighted in sharing her homemade candy and cookies with loved ones and neighbors alike.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Edna D. Purcell and Warren Purcell, and her siblings W.A., Geraldine, John, and Nancy.

A graduate of Breckinridge High School, she served with the Census Bureau, worked as an administrative assistant, homemaker, and had a background in pharmacy technology. Beyond her professional life, she embraced a wide range of interests—gardening, reading, traveling, and playing games with family. She loved UofL basketball and had a special flair for animal print everything, which brought a joyful spark to her graceful presence.

She was an active member of her community through her work with Senior Care Experts and the Order of the Eastern Star. As a charter member of Highview Baptist Church, her life of faith was steady and sincere, touching all who knew her. She gave generously of her time and resources to those in need, living out her values with quiet humility.

Her legacy is one of kindness, joy, generosity, and unwavering love. Her spirit lives on in the lives she touched and in the family who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

Visitation will be held at Arch L. Heady Funeral Home, 7410 Westport Road, Louisville, KY, on May 18th from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM, with funeral services to follow at 3:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hosparus Health of Louisville, in gratitude for their compassionate care.
