It is with great sadness that the family of Jeffry Wade Burgess announces his passing after a hard fought battle with cancer, on Friday June 7th, 2019, at the age of 72 years. He was surrounded by his daughters, Misty Kupka and Lacey Burgess, and his sweet dog Buster.

Jeff graduated from Waggener High School, was an electrician and lifelong member of the IBEW Local 369 (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers). After being drafted he served in the army for two years, with one year of service in Vietnam between 1968-69 as a radio technician and MP. He also held a membership with the American Legion. He was a talented musician who loved to sing and played multiple instruments. Just two weeks ago he sang along to “America the Beautiful” at a memorial ceremony honoring the veterans at the assisted living facility where he resided.

He is survived by his daughters, Misty (John) and Lacey, his son Fred Karem (Kathie), his sister Darlene Ingram (Bruce), nephews Charles (Christi) and Kenny Dobbs, granddaughters Arlie Mohar Burgess and Meghan McNichols, grandsons Dylan and Ben Karem and his faithful Chihuahua-Dachshund companion of 9 years, Buster.

A cemetery service and memorial celebration to honor his life will be announced by the family at a later date.

Donations can be made in Jeff’s memory to veterans aid organizations (a cause he was most passionate about) such as Wounded Warriors or Disabled American Veterans. Donations can be made online at or or by check at Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517 or DAV, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250, respectfully.

I remember going every Christmas Eve to Jeff and Linda's house and all of us kids putting on a play for all the adults. I have tons of great memories and cherish them to this day.
You will be missed and always loved!

Jeffry, I miss you already. The realization that you've passed through the veil, is hard to comprehend. I know you're in a beautiful place, where there's no pain or sorrow, so that gives me some measure of peace. Take your rest, my beloved brother. I'll see you, Mama and Daddy when my time comes. I love you always...

Jeff and my future husband Tommy jawed at the electrical box and called out "okay" My job was simply to dismantle a receptical box, yes with an uninsiulated screwdriver. ..... I came to w Tommy waving my arms.

The electrical box had not been shut down and I was blown to the otherside of the room. And then I married Tommy Borders. I still blame Jeff. ❤❤❤❤
