

She departed this world on September 27, 2026. Throughout her life, she was a dedicated educator and a loving mother to her two daughters, Jennifer and Deborah, and a proud grandmother of five and great-grandmother of six.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband (George Dailey), sister (Dr. Allene W. Reed), brother (Wayman L. Wallace Jr.), sister (Countress Threatt), and son-in-law (Randy Palmer).
She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer E. Colley (Prince) and Deborah A. Palmer; grandchildren, Jasmine Beane (Eric; children Josephine, Corbin, Liam), Pamella Amirali (Nawaz; child Rumi), Brandon Colley (Grant), Derrick Palmer (Taylor; children Amelia, Claire), and Jason Palmer; younger sister, Angela B. Wallace-Hicks (Charlie); sister-in-law, Gloria Wallace; and a host of other relatives.
Jewel earned her Bachelor's degree in Home Economics from Alabama A&M University, and later went on to earn her Master of Education at Alabama State University with a major in Education and a minor in English.
Jewel shared her passion for learning over a distinguished 30-year teaching career. She spent 16 years teaching at Shelby County Training School before joining the faculty at Prentice High School prior to its integration—which became Montevallo Middle School after integration, where she continued educating youth until her retirement. Upon retiring, she continued teaching adult courses at the University of Montevallo.
Early in her career at Shelby County Training School, Jewel met the love of her life, George Dailey. They were married on August 20, 1960.
Visitation will be 10:00 am to 12:00 pm Friday, October 2, 2026 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218.
Celebrating the Life of Jewel will be 12:00 pm, Friday, October 2, 2026 at the same location.
A Committal Service will take place at Calvary Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Rd, Louisville, KY 40205, on October 2, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.
