He was a copy editor at The Courier-Journal for 22 years, retiring in 1987. He edited national news most of that time but edited sports news in his last years. He had worked 13 years at The Fort Worth Star-Telegram before moving to Louisville. He was a graduate of Texas Tech.
Mr. Henley was born March 3, 1931, on a farm near Snyder, TX, the son of John B. and Hester Amason Henley. His parents and a brother, J.B. Jr., preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sisters, Sarah Lou Henley of Lamesa, TX, and Annie May Burt (Dick) of Garland, TX, as well as three nieces and four nephews. And his beloved sheltie, Gusto.
A service to Celebrate Jimmie's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the Santuary of Crescent Hill Baptist Church, 2800 Frankfort Avenue, with private burial at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, in Radcliff, KY. Visitation for family and friends, are 5-8 p.m. Friday at Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Avenue.
